Verb to be มีหลักการใช้ดังต่อไปนี้
1. to be + adjective หมายถึงการใช้
Verb to be ตามด้วยคำคุณศัพท์
(Adjective) เช่น
I am happy.
You are
smart.
2. to be + กริยาเติม
ing (v+ing) ใช้เพื่อแสดงเหตุการณ์ที่กำลังกระทำ
หรือกำลังเกิดขึ้น เช่น
My
mother is cooking.
Joey and
his friends are doing their homework.
3. to be + complement. (ส่วนขยาย)
ใช้ Verb
to be กับส่วนขยายของประโยคเพื่อให้ประโยคสมบูรณ์ขึ้น
เช่น His father is an engineer.
They are soccer player
4. ใช้ในรูปของ There is / There are เช่น
There
is a calculator on the table.
There
is an umbrella on the walk
